An Accelerate North Tulsa Response
by Summer Wilson, Accelerate North Tulsa Cohort 1 Fellow
What has been the most rewarding part of this fellowship?
The most rewarding part of the Accelerate North Tulsa fellowship has been the opportunity to connect with other community members who are passionate about making a difference in North Tulsa. The fellowship has provided a space for us to share our ideas, learn from each other, and build relationships that will last long after the program is over. We have also had the opportunity to learn from some of the most respected leaders in Tulsa, who have shared their expertise and insights with us. This has been invaluable, and it has given us the tools and confidence we need to make a real impact in our community. Finally, the fellowship has given us a platform to share our stories and amplify our voices. We have been able to use this platform to raise awareness of the issues facing North Tulsa, and to advocate for change. This has been a powerful experience, and it has made us feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves.
2. What issues in North Tulsa are you feeling drawn to link arms with your neighbors and change?
There are many issues in North Tulsa that I am passionate about changing. Some of the most pressing issues include:
Education: North Tulsa schools are struggling, and many students are not receiving the quality education they deserve. This lack of education is a major obstacle to success, and it limits the opportunities available to young people.
Crime: North Tulsa has a high crime rate, and many residents feel unsafe in their own community. This crime is a major problem, and it makes it difficult for people to live, work, and raise a family in North Tulsa.
Healthcare: North Tulsa has a shortage of healthcare providers, and many residents do not have access to quality healthcare. This lack of healthcare is a major health risk, and it can lead to serious health problems
Poverty: North Tulsa has a high poverty rate, with over 30% of residents living below the poverty line. This poverty is a major barrier to opportunity, and it makes it difficult for people to get ahead in life.
I believe that these issues can be solved if we work together as a community. We need to come together and advocate for change, and we need to hold our elected officials accountable. We also need to support each other and build a strong sense of community. I am committed to working together to make North Tulsa a better place for everyone. 3. If you could speak to someone who feels they are powerless to take action, what would you say?
If I could speak to someone who feels powerless to take action, I would say: I understand how you feel. It can be easy to feel like you don't have any power to change things, especially when you're facing big challenges like poverty, crime, and lack of quality education or opportunities. But I want to assure you that you are not alone. There are many people who are working to make a difference in North Tulsa, and we need your help. There are many ways that you can get involved. You can volunteer your time to a local organization, attend Tulsa School Board or City Council meetings & let your voice be heard, or simply get to know your neighbors and build relationships. Every little bit helps. I know that it can be hard to believe that you can make a difference, but I want to encourage you to try. You might be surprised at how much you can accomplish.
Together, we can make North Tulsa a better place for everyone. Pictured Below: Accelerate North Tulsa Cohort 1
